# Google Maps Rank Checker

Explore how local search visibility changes around your business. Use Local Heatmap with Google Local to inspect local pack and map results at separate points on a geographic grid.

Local Heatmap offers Google Local for local pack and map results, and Google for organic website rankings. Choose the appropriate engine for your report.

## A map ranking needs a search location.

### Set the centre

Search for your business address or select a point on the map. Check the geographic centre before you create a report so the grid covers the area you mean to investigate.

### Control the coverage

Choose a 3 × 3, 6 × 6 or 9 × 9 grid and the spacing between points. Start small: more points and keywords increase the number of searches collected.

### Read each point

Choose a keyword and click a grid cell to inspect the results captured there. Use the location table and ranking bands to identify nearby areas worth investigating.

### Compare the same settings

Keep the centre, spacing, keywords and engine consistent when comparing reports. Inspect the target match before interpreting a dash or a missing position.

## Create your first local visibility grid.

1. Choose a campaign and enter the target domain
2. Set a centre address, grid size and spacing
3. Select Google Local and add your keywords
4. Open completed cells and inspect the results

## Questions

### Which Local Heatmap engine should I select?

Select Google Local for local pack and map results. Select Google for organic website positions. The engine changes the search results you are measuring, so record it when comparing reports.

### Why can two nearby grid points show different positions?

Each point represents a separate search location. Compare the captured results at both points, using the same keyword and engine, to investigate differences in local visibility.

### Does a dash mean my business is absent everywhere?

No. Inspect the results for that cell and check the target domain, including www variations. A missing target match in one captured result set does not establish visibility at every other location.
